We visited Steveston to scope out Once Upon A Time film sets but ended up enjoying brunch on a sunny patio at Tapenade. Not a bad tradeoff.

Tapenade looks like a cozy house, it’s the perfect charming stop for a lazy Sunday brunch. Watching fishing boats bob in the distance, we  soaked in the lively weekend atmosphere created by cyclists and tourists.

My Sundays are never complete without a mimosa, and the classic mimosas at Tapenade are sweet and refreshing and perfectly bubbly.

Pork and Beans with Duck Confit, Tapenade Bistro, 3711 Bayview Street, Steveston, BC, Canada

I ordered the Pork and Beans with Duck Confit. I don’t actually like beans but I love pork and duck so two out of three wasn’t bad. The dish was also served with two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Basically, it was the best of brunch all in one bowl!

The beans turned out to be tender and delicious though and I ate most of them. The pork belly was incredible. I don’t think my words or pictures did it justice. It literally just melted in my mouth. The skin was crispy and buttery and the meat was so juicy and succulent.

The poached eggs were perfectly runny in the middle. The egg yolks added another layer of richness to the already very full and heavy dish. The hollandaise sauce was also amazingly rich and creamy.

The duck confit leg was packed with flavour, the meat also fell off the bone and melted in my mouth just like the pork belly. The skin was crispy too. This was one of the most delicious brunch dishes I’ve had in a while.

Smoked Salmon Benedict, 3711 Bayview Street, Steveston, BC, Canada

We also ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict. The benny was appropriately served on a baguette instead of an English muffin. It’s a French restaurant after all! I admit that I prefer a soft and fluffy English muffin though. The smoked salmon was silky and delicious and the poached eggs were as runny as the ones in my pork and beans bowl. I loved the perfectly seasoned potatoes in this dish!

I can’t wait to revisit Tapenade!
