Hands down, the perfect pre-hike snack is a big doughnut with maple frosting from Honey Doughnuts and Goodies. I don’t care what the health nuts say about crashing after the sugar high, etc., etc. I love doughnuts and if I’m going on a hike, I’m definitely scarfing down one of these famous ones from Deep Cove.

Touted in Vancouver Magazine as being one of the best foods in the city, Honey Doughnuts is famous for their dense and crumbly doughnuts. Think of them as the opposite of a light and fluffy Krispy Kreme.

Honey Doughnuts still melt in your mouth, but the texture is much courser. It kind of made me think of a pound cake but in the shape of a doughnut covered in thick, sweet, nutty maple frosting. It was delicious! And after eating it, I was charged for my hike!

I can’t wait to go back to Honey Doughnuts to buy a whole dozen of these big doughnuts!
