Hui Lau Shan: Best Mango Mochi Dessert
58-60 Sai Yeung Choi Street, Mong Kok, Hong Kong
Hui Lau Shan is a Hong Kong dessert chain. They also make a variety of real fruit drinks that of course you can add sago or jelly to. The funny thing was that according to their menu, it seemed as if all their fruit drinks have the exact same fruits, just added in a different order. So we each just ordered a variation of the same drink. Mine was topped with real mango chucks which was super refreshing.
The real gem at Hui Lau Shan are the mochi desserts. We ordered the mango mochi. The plump, squishy rice flour dessert was covered in sweet shredded coconut and stuffed full of sweet, juicy real mango fruit inside. There was so much mango inside each mochi ball, you got a bit of fruit with each bite. You know how sometimes you bite into a supposed jelly donut and you’re three quarters finished eating the donut before you finally bite into the drop of jelly inside? This is not the case with the mango mochi at Hui Lau Shan. Finally! We found a mochi dessert that satisfied my mochi ball craving. I’ve been craving mochi balls since our Hawaii trip where we had the most delicious and addictive mochi at Bubbies.
