Boffo’s: Peameal and Meatball Fix
Boffo’s
334 Kerr St, Oakville, ON L6K 3B5
Looking for a peameal bacon fix, we walked to Boffo’s in Kerr Village. I love Italian delis. I can spend hours just looking at the endless rows of homemade dishes in their display cases and exploring shelves for gourmet olives, preserves and fancy spreads. The owner at Boffo’s is also super friendly and outgoing. He happily greeted us as soon as we walked in, telling us about the day’s fresh sandwiches and new menu items. He even offered us complimentary nacho chips as we shopped. It really made our shopping experience so much more enjoyable.
We also love Boffo’s because of their commitment to sustainability and natural ingredients. It truly makes a difference in flavour and healthy eating habits. As much as I love my food vices, it is comforting to know that whatever I’m shoveling into my mouth in big quantities is not also full of preservatives.
We went in for a peameal bacon sandwich but after I spied the giant Italian meatballs, we had to have a meatball sandwich too.
Truthfully, everyone knows that there is no real substitute for Carousel Bakery’s peameal bacon sandwich in St. Lawrence Market but I have to say that Boffo’s comes close. Their homemade peameal is more thinly sliced, and more delicate but the flavours are extraordinary. The delectable trademark crisp crust is still on each slice of peameal bacon and the meat is moist and delicious. I also loved the crusty bread that kept from getting soggy.
The meatball sandwich was also scrumptious. I actually preferred it over the peameal bacon sandwich. The meatballs were so tender and soft, they fell apart as soon as I bit into the sandwich. The tangy tomato sauce added the perfect kick of flavour to the sandwich. The meatballs were not heavily seasoned at all, but like I said, there is a true difference to natural beef, where the fresh flavours shine through any herbs or spices.
I think Boffo’s will become a regular haunt, it’s such a cute little neighbourhood deli, it’s hard to stay away.
