Glory Hole Doughnuts: Do you want Bacon with that?
1596 Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario
I’ve become obsessed with yet another doughnut shop in Toronto. This one’s called Glory Hole and the most glorious thing about their menu is that you can add a slice of bacon to any doughnut (for an extra $1). As you can see from our big box of treasures, we took full advantage of adding a slice of bacon to as many doughnuts as we could.
A simple but addictive doughnut is bread and butter. This doughnut truly does taste like a buttered piece of freshly baked bread. We added a piece of bacon but this doughnut is great without it too.
My ultimate favourite doughnut is the Elvis with marshmallow, loaded with lots of peanut butter, crunchy and sweet dried banana and crispy bacon (this doughnut already comes with bacon), topped with a perfectly toasted, soft, squishy sweet marshmallow, this doughnut hits all the cravings for salty, sweet and everything in between.
The maple glazed doughnut was wonderfully light, fluffy and sweet with that distinct nutty maple flavour coming through, that was further enhanced by the slice of bacon we added.
The Kensington Brew Co. Beer doughnut was unique and tasty. It’s a grownup’s doughnut, tasting slightly of hops with a nutty kick of golden beer, and topped with nuts, I loved this doughnut.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is the cookies and cream doughnut, a whimsical kid-friendly flavour. The flavour is such a throwback to childhood afternoon snacks and innocent indulgences. I love the contrasting flavours of the sweet cream against the bittersweet chocolate cookie crumbs. This doughnut is a must-have at Glory Hole.
A tart and tangy decadent doughnut is the lemon meringue, sporting a perfectly toasted swirly pouf of meringue on top of a doughnut filled to the max with lemon jelly. This was just like eating the doughnut version of a lemon meringue pie.
Another doughnut version of a classic dessert is the Black Forest Cake, complete with two maraschino cherries. The doughnut was dripping of sweet glaze, bittersweet chocolate and loads of whipped cream. It was the perfect over-the-top guilty pleasure.
The banana cream pie doughnut is equally over-the-top, tasting of sweet, ripe bananas, the doughnut is piled high with banana cream with sprinkles of crunchy dried banana bits on top. I felt like I had to eat this doughnut with a fork as if it really was a slice of banana cream pie.
The chocolate pistachio is a must-have for pistachio lovers. The doughnut is sweet and nutty and not too sweet.
The pretzel doughnut is topped with the same bittersweet chocolate that is the perfect canvas for salty treats like pretzel sticks. The pretzels added a great texture to the soft doughnut.
Glory Hole Doughnuts also caters. Check their website for details! Doughnuts (plus bacon) make every party more fun!
