Red Rock Winery: Balance is Key
Rick, Grace, Alvin and I checked out Red Rock Winery’s exclusive dining event hosted at a private home in West Vancouver. Cabs whisked us away from the downtown core deep into the majestic forested neighbourhoods of West Vancouver. Red Rock Winery invited bloggers, media personalities and photographers to try their new malbec and enjoy an intimate, laid back evening, the theme of the night being work/life balance and relaxation.
We knew we were at the right place when our cab pulled up to a long, winding path marked with a Red Rock Winery box.
We made our way down the forested path to a stunning house with a tall, dramatic doorway. Rachel of Dunn PR answered the door, pretty and barefoot, setting the tone for the night: a comfy and casual evening and great wine! As we entered, we were led into a gorgeous living room opening up to a deck with the most breathtaking view I’ve ever seen: blue sky, mountains and calm water. I was too in awe of the beautiful infinity pool, chic stone deck to even notice the food.
Chefs were bustling away in the open concept kitchen to push out some lovely and tasty treats. All the fancy stuff aside, Rick, Grace and I couldn’t get enough of the bacon grilled cheese sandwiches. Toasted to perfection with crispy bacon and gooey cheese. I definitely ate more than my share of these little guys.
I normally don’t like vegetables but these skewered veggies were specially grilled on hot stones on the deck. It was hard to resist anything that sizzled away deliciously on those big slabs of heated rocks.
The Chef carefully highlighted and gave a backgrounder on the pizza ingredients and cooking method as we salivated over the rich aromas.
Thanks to the extremely hot stones, the pizza crust was very fresh and crispy.
Also being passed around were adorable spoonfuls of one of my guilty pleasures: spaghetti and meatballs. Delish! And so neat to eat.
Rachel posed for some pics and introduced some wines to us. I usually stick to Chardonnay when it comes to wine but Red Rock’s Malbec is so smooth and balanced, it’s the perfect easy drinking red wine. The Malbec is richly sweet with heavy notes of cranberry but also finished off with a smooth lightness. It was definite easy drinking for a evening on the patio while watching that gorgeous sunset.
The view was definitely a constant distraction from the amazing food.
Halfway through the evening, we were given a little intro about Red Rock Malbec, a wine that celebrates the concept of balance. And it is noticeable with every sip that each ingredient compliments the next, creating a deep and multifaceted drink that both enhances a meal as well as stands alone as a full bodied red wine.
After dinner, we were served some juicy grilled fruit on skewers. The perfect sweet pairing that brought out the fruitier notes in Red Rock’s Malbec.
And to completely indulge my sweet tooth, some dense and rich cranberry brownies were passed around. I loved that they were bite sized, it almost made them guilt-free to eat.
We also nibbled on nutty and sweet chocolate truffles as the evening ended.
We were totally spoiled during our Red Rock dining experience. And I definitely felt more relaxed and refreshed after dining on that amazing patio. Cabs came to pick us up after the evening, and we were whisked right back to the hustle and bustle of downtown Vancouver and our real lives. Fairy tales and infinity pools will just have to wait for another night.
