How about just eat the waffle with plain. So in that way you can taste the tru profile of the waffle. Might as well try a macchiato from both shop. Since they use the same espresso machine. Their waffle sundaes are good too, perhaps you can ask the staffs for suggestions? they are pretty knowledgable. While you are there, you should really try their coffee - latte or cap. REALLY good : ). Yes it's disappointing to know medina didn't make their waffle, but at least they bake it, so it's still fresh I think. I've seem frozen waffle being heated up in wicked cafe.. and they sell it 3.50 for a small piece. That's a real disappointment... I would recommend you another visit to michi and do a follow up review? so your reader won't be misinformed. I think they are probably the best waffle shop I've been to (including manneken waffle in Japan!). Try talk to the staff there and you will appreciate their concept like I did. I believe they "cook" to make the strawberry and blueberry sauces so having them severed "unthawed" is a bit odd. Your review is very detailed which is awesome, just thought that it would be better if it's up-to-date. Oh, and you don't have to go all the way to Steveston to try Damien's, you already have! Both Mink and Medina buy from him (as per Damien's staff). It explains why they only offer 1 flavour of waffle. Unlike michi, where they make all the waffles on site so you can get some special stuff like mochi or matcha waffle. Which waffle do you recommend I order for my 2nd visit? I didn't know Cafe Medina buys pre-made waffles! What a disappointment :( I thought those stacked waffles in the window were house-made... Thanks for the info :) Gosh, I wasn’t expecting such a strong reaction to my review of Michi… now I definitely have to give the place a 2nd chance! They have 2 types of waffles there: the light, bread-like Brussels waffle, and the sweet, chewy Liege waffle. You probably chose the Brussels waffle. That one has a larger surface area (which is better for piling on sweet toppings) and is made with NO sugar whatsoever. They use it as "bread" for their lunch sandwiches as well. The Liege waffle is delicious on its own, and you can certainly taste the pearl sugar. I recommend that you give this cafe another try. It's worth it. I have been to Michi’s many, many times. However, in Steveston, everybody will have an opinion about it! About Portland, sorry, not a sweets person! (Despite there are options for savoury waffles). Besides, if I was down there, I would have gone to other places... ;) Pajo’s is overrated; there are better fish and chips shops nearby. Thanks for the tip! Every time I go to Steveston, I'm too obsessed with lining up at Pajo's to pay attention to the other cool food places and bakeries... I'll put Damien's on my wish list along with this infamous place in Portland called The Waffle Window. Have you been there before? Haven’t tried Damien’s yet… Thanks for the tip!
